SHARON FEDER
Artist Statement
I have been a painter for as long as I can remember.
The duality and interplay between realism and abstraction influence my art work and my experiences in life, in each moment. The subject matter of my paintings is a response to the
S T I L L L I F E of being. Current works originate from observing buildings that are in a state of stasis: between what they once were and what they will become, between existence and non-existence, between being open for business and being after-hours. The structures become giant still lifes from which to observe the cycle of birth, life, death, compost, re-birth.
Feder began studying oil painting as a child with some of Colorado’s well-known Modernists, and then at the University of Washington in Seattle. Her paintings have been enhanced and informed by decades of technical experience as set designer, muralist, and sign artist, along with a life richly lived as mother, mate, and student of nature.
Feder is represented by George Billis Gallery, Los Angeles. In addition, she has shown extensively in the metropolitan Denver area including solo exhibitions at Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art, Denver Botanic Gardens, the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities, Denver International Airport, Goodwin Fine Art, Michele Mosko Fine Art, and the Denver Theatre District as well as invited and curated exhibitions including at the Museum of Outdoor Art, the Arvada Center, Curtis Fine Art Center and Denver Botanic Gardens. Her work is included in many corporate and private collections.
