PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE |
We are pleased to present Ryan Hyojung Kim: In My Garden IV, the artist’s fourth solo exhibition.
Ryan Kim loved to play in the garden as a child. His eyes were filled with wonder and delight when he watched beautiful flowers dancing in the gentle breeze. As he started to explore painting, he returned again and again to the motifs that had fascinated him as a child: botanical forms. As an artist, he creates his own gardens - drawing inspiration from those forms that fascinated him as a child. Using confident strokes and bold colors, Kim captures the essence of the flowers in his paintings.
While staying true to the physical shapes of the flower, Kim abstracts the forms to create unique and compelling paintings. Rendered in simple forms and lines, Kim’s paintings coax out the vibrant essence of nature. The paintings reflect the pure sensation the viewer would encounter upon facing a garden in full bloom.
Kim’s hope for his paintings is to provide the viewer with a moment of joy and tranquility in the busy modern world, where so often people forget to take those moments and are in need of break and relaxation. These paintings are truly meant to ask the viewer to stop, for a moment, and be with a single flower - to see what memories that image conjures up, to pause and meditate for a moment on the forms, the richness of the colors, and the wonder that is nature.
