We are pleased to announce a Q&A discussion between Bonita Helmer and Shana Nys Dambrot in conjunction with her new show "Observed." The discussion will be centered on the ideas and themes presented by Nys Dambrot in her catalog essay "Bonita Helmer: life, the universe, and everything." The catalog was produced and designed by Bill Bush.
Bonita Helmer explores scientific theories of physics, astronomy, the inner and outer realms of existence, and the unseen elements of our universe in her paintings. Helmer began her investigation of this work prior to 2000; she is authentically involved in the importance of physics, subatomic research, black holes, the birth of stars, supernovas, and Einstein’s “God Theory”, gravity, energy, heavy elements and collapsing gas and dust to name a few. Helmer began teaching at Otis College Art and Design in 1998 and continues to teach there present day. Helmer received her BA in painting, UCLA, Antioch.
Shana Nys Dambrot is an art critic, curator, and author based in Los Angeles. She is currently LA Editor for WhiteHot Magazine, Contributing Editor for Art Ltd., Art Editor for VS. Formerly Managing Editor at Flavorpill.com and Art + Books Editor at LA CANVAS, other publications have included Modern Painters, Art Review, Artweek, ARTnews, the Believer, tema celeste, Angeleno, Art Asia Pacific, Coagula, and Juxtapoz. She has written essays for scores of exhibition catalogs and artist-monographs, curates a handful of exhibitions each year, and speaks in public with alarming frequency. A full account of her activities is sometimes updated at www.sndx.net.

She also worked on award winning exhibitions such as Pierre Huyghe, Noah Purifoy Junk Dada and James Turrell: a Retrospective.
