am a Plein air painter. The paintings I make are the result of a protracted experience of a particular site. My paintings are an artifact of this experience. While I do endeavor to achieve verisimilitude; I realize that a painting is the result of human perceptions rendered, in my case, in oil bound pigments. It is within this clumsy endeavor, that I find what truly excites me about picture making. The engaged struggle to “see” properly coupled with the task of rendering what you see in a medium that at times can be obstinate in its’ gooeyness or unyielding tricky in its’ runniness. I am charmed by the alchemy of transforming this material into something that transcends what it is…paint.
