s an artist, I paint landscape. My concerns and my experiences resonate in the environment around me. The banality of suburbs, trucks, and highways are the fabric in which my experience is made of. The bucolic fields of the past, the forests and the open plains are fast becoming paved and divided for development, and this is the new American landscape. The horror of sprawl gives way to an acceptance of what is and a longing for the familiar. This is the seduction of nostalgia, when the memories of your landscape are Home Depots, industrial parks, and suburban sprawl. I am interested in this relationship of nostalgia and the relationship we have with the environment around us. The distancing of the way we view the landscape, from a car window, from development to development, our relationships are repetitions in travel and acquisitions. How we interact to our environment seems to be as alienating as the actual landscape.
