DAVID LYLE
Eileen Eder

Light, Shadow and Reflections describe the essence of Eileen Eder’s still-life paintings. Her canvases play with the results that occur when light comes in contact with various surfaces. In some pieces it’s bent through glass containers, in others objects are reflected or shadowed on table tops, in all light describes the beautiful subtleties of color in objects both man made and natural.

“I want it all! Narrative, atmosphere, strong graphic composition, light and shadow, color and craftsmanship are all elements that I focus on in my paintings. The most important part of my creative process is conceptualizing and choreographing a 'stage' of still life objects that focuses on the abstract, using color, value, shapes and reflections to energize every inch of my canvas and beyond. Frequently, objects are cropped to suggest a slice or window of a larger world. The Still-lifes are then executed with a perceptual approach to drawing and painting.

While being conscious of my preferences and priorities, I also keep in mind my viewer. A sense of familiarity with common recognizable objects is challenged with mystery and unusual combinations. I enjoy luscious painting and I think it is an important part of catching my viewers’ attention that I hope to engage for extended periods of time with content. “
